This is a realistic book about a girl called Maia, who is an orphan. One day, she finds out that she has distant relatives up the Amazon. So she goes to live with them and Miss Minton, her governess, accompanies her. But when they arrive, two spiteful, posh cousins are waiting for her. They're always complaining, and they seem to hate her. But when she meets a mysterious boy, who lives alone on the wild river shores, Maia begins a spectacular journey to the heart of an extraordinary new world.   

This book is just marvellous. I loved this book, and highly recommend it. It took me to a different world of beautiful nature. This book is magical.
